Daniel works in the consumer electronics industry but hopes to one day own a cafe. Like most Hainanese men, he can whip up a storm in the kitchen and is constantly invited to other people's house parties... to cook for them.

Esther works for a major airline by day, and bakes incessantly by night. Trained as a chemical engineer, she puts that knowledge to good use - by reading package labels to see if it's good for you.

A Seoul Food Experience (Part I)

By estar | March 8, 2009

While recently in Seoul for a short getaway, I was actually not looking forward to five days of Korean food, thanks to my dislike of kimchi. Fortunately, the trip proved that Korean food had much more to offer than preserved vegetables and I ended up loving most of my meals there! I was especially thrilled with the variety of street food:

Grilled pork sausage meat wrapped around a rice cake centre – The rice cake was deliciously unexpected!

Egg cheese bread – This had a whole egg inside!

Grilled chicken with very spicy bean paste – My mouth was numb for half an hour after eating this.

Hotteok – A lightly fried pancake with brown sugar cinnamon filling – yumz!

I’m not fond of kimchi or Korean food either (well, what we have here in Singapore sucks). But the street food looks interesting! =)

Hi Camemberu, I was pleasantly surprised at the yummy street food too! In Singapore, Jang Shou Charcoal BBQ at Esplanade (where Rain once ate) serves up decent grilled meats. Friends highly recommend Hyang To Gol at Amara hotel for authentic Korean food (though I’ve personally not eaten there).
