About Daniel&Esther

daniel & esther

Daniel works in the consumer electronics industry but hopes to one day own a cafe. Like most Hainanese men, he can whip up a storm in the kitchen and is constantly invited to other people's house parties... to cook for them.

Esther works for a major airline by day, and bakes incessantly by night. Trained as a chemical engineer, she puts that knowledge to good use - by reading package labels to see if it's good for you.

Krispy Kreme

By estar | January 25, 2008

While discussing the recent doughtnut craze in Singapore, friends would always say the ones we get here can’t compare to the doughy treats from the American chain Krispy Kreme. So when I had the opportunity to try some in Hong Kong, I bought an assorted half-dozen - New York Cheesecake, Milk Tea Twist, Original Glazed, Powdered Strawberry Filled, Choco Fudge Cake and Cinnamon Apple Filled.

Krispy Kreme

The verdict: Krispy Kreme doughnuts were denser and less greasy than their local counterparts. The Choco Fudge Cake was so dense it could hardly be classified a doughnut! A brownie with a hole in the centre, maybe. My favourite was the Cinnamon Apple Filled - a dollop of not-too-sweet apple pie filling encased in a soft, chewy dough - yummy!
