About Daniel&Esther

daniel & esther

Daniel works in the consumer electronics industry but hopes to one day own a cafe. Like most Hainanese men, he can whip up a storm in the kitchen and is constantly invited to other people's house parties... to cook for them.

Esther works for a major airline by day, and bakes incessantly by night. Trained as a chemical engineer, she puts that knowledge to good use - by reading package labels to see if it's good for you.

Something Brews in San Francisco

By daniel | December 4, 2007

Just as Esther enjoyed her chocolate binge in San Francisco, I just had to try the beer this city has to offer.

SF brewing company

We dropped by San Francisco Brewing Company, where I tried the SF Pale Ale (US$3.50):

SF Pale Lager

It was somewhat more hoppy and bitter than I preferred, but at least it had more character than a Budweiser or Miller.

I also had a chance to try San Francisco’s famed Anchor Steam beer by Anchor Brewing in a quaint tavern-like diner called Cat N Fiddle in Sausalito:

I wonder if it’s the same as the Anchor Beer we get here in Singapore? While I liked it a little better than SF Brewing Company’s SF Pale Ale, I definitely missed the microbrews we get back home such as those from Archipelago.

Oh, and the Tsingtao I got from the Chinese restaurant while in SF doesn’t quite count. ^^
