Big Breakfasts in San Francisco (Part I)
By daniel | November 27, 2007
We’re not talking about the one you get at McDonalds. We’re talking about the massive, King Kong-sized gutbursting meals that seemed to be served every morning in San Francisco. Here’s but a few of them.

Lori’s Diner
We went to the Powell Street branch of Lori’s Diner, a 50s-themed restaurant packed with memorabilia from that era.
Check out this portion of corned beef hash we ordered:

A pile of hash, 2 eggs, a large side of panfried cubed red potatoes, and 2 slices of toast. This was meant for 1. We shared this, along with an additional pancake and a grapefruit juice (which all totalled up to around US$20). When we went in the morning the diner was packed to the gills, but we did get a nice seat which overlooked Powell Street.
Lori’s Diner Powell is at 149 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.
Justa Bite

Justa Bite is a much smaller, family-owned cafe. We were basically hungry and hunting for some food while on our way to Fisherman’s Wharf, and it seemed convenient.

The grilled steak patty melt (US$7.05) was pretty flavoursome and the breakfast sandwich (US$6.50) - ham, cheese and scrambled egg in a croissant -was likewise good. Both portions were large, although we did polish them off. Hot coffee, at US$1.80, was probably one of the cheapest we’ve encountered in SF so far.
It’s got some negative reviews on www.yelp.com, but we can’t really see why. The food was pretty decent although somewhat pricey (except for the coffee). The free Wifi was an added bonus.
Justa Bite is at 725 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94133.
More big breakfasts to come in Part II.
