Wedding Wine

Wines at weddings are usually an afterthought, but we felt that we needed to complement our dinner menu at Grand Shanghai with wines that were less common and not the “budget-label-from-discount-bins” type. For this purpose we sought the advice from Ching, the friendly co-owner of wine distribution company CT Venture.
Since our Chinese banquet menu consists mainly of seafood, Ching proposed a sweet German Reisling for our white and a Pinot Noir for the red. Our friends Jennifer and Ethan - both wine enthusiasts - tasted the Pinot Noir and were pleasantly surprised by its interestingly soft yet spicy character. Pinot Noir is less commonly found at weddings (merlot and cabernet sauvignon are usually favoured, for whatever reason).
We blew our wine budget by a mile, but we do want our guests to enjoy themselves. If I’m going to be forced under the table, at least its with good stuff!

2004 M¼lheimer Sonnenlay Riesling, Qba, Zeppelin-Label
Fresh and fruity with nice appley and lemony nose. Juicy and luscious on the palate, and finishes with spicy and long lasting harmonic built on fruit acid. This single vineyard Riesling was successfully served on the flights of the “Graf Zeppelin†in the 1920s and 1930s.
Rochford “Latitude†Pinot Noir 2003
Distinct Pinot Noir fruit with a combination of lifted cherry and spice, coupled with hints of forest floor and toasty oak. Rich and soft with fine savoury note, with fine grape tannins supporting a long clean finish.
