About Daniel&Esther

daniel & esther

Daniel works in the consumer electronics industry but hopes to one day own a cafe. Like most Hainanese men, he can whip up a storm in the kitchen and is constantly invited to other people's house parties... to cook for them.

Esther works for a major airline by day, and bakes incessantly by night. Trained as a chemical engineer, she puts that knowledge to good use - by reading package labels to see if it's good for you.

Special Tim Tams!

By daniel | August 14, 2007

tim tams

My dear cousin Richie, his wife Hsien and young son Eu-en visited us recently from Melbourne, Australia and brought us a special chocolate treat - Tim Tams! And not just the regular Tim Tams - but the special Love Potions edition of (from top) Chocolate Mud, Sticky Vanilla Toffee and Double Chocolate & Raspberry.

These weren’t available in Singapore when we checked, not even the highly overpriced Candy Empire in Vivocity and Millenia Walk.

The Double Chocolate & Raspberry beat the other two hands down - the dark chocolate contrasts well with the sour tang of the berries. The Chocolate Mud tasted ordinary, while the Sticky Vanilla & Toffee is, well, a dentist’s nightmare in a wrapper.

Our advice? If you ever get hold of these, make sure that if you refrigerate them remember to take them out of the fridge about 10 minutes before you consume them. Otherwise, the filling can be teeth-breakingly hard. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

    Hi DK,

Haha it was my usual practice for Tim Tams when I was studying in Melbourne. The original Tim Tams were really good to Slam with a cafe latte. Heaven!

Let me know what sort you like.

    hi precious,

College Square! One of my church mates in Melbourne lived there too. Rooms are tiny, but at least you’re right smack in the middle of Little Italy… lol
